The university offers over 130 areas of concentration across its five undergraduate schools. In the spring of 2024, Binghamton awarded the greatest number of degrees in business (14%), biology (20%), the social sciences (13%), engineering (9%), and psychology (10%). The School of Management is renowned for its accounting program and is well-known by NYC-based companies. Programs in chemistry, psychology, and nursing are also well respected.
According to Binghamton’s Fleishman Career Center, the Class of 2024 saw an overall placement rate of 89.3%. This includes an 85.8% placement rate of job-seeking graduates and 94.8% placement rate of continuing education graduates. Those entering the technology & computing fields found homes at companies like Facebook, IBM, Apple, and Microsoft in large numbers. Most courses are in small settings, with the vast majority enrolling fewer than 20 students. In 2023-24, over half the granted undergraduate degrees were in the visual and performing arts (53%). In a distant second was communication/journalism (13%), followed by psychology (8%) and social sciences (6%).
The rate of positive graduate outcomes is a spectacular 92% when measured 8-12 months outside of graduation. In a recent year, 86% had landed employment and 13% were enrolled in graduate school (with some overlap). It has a 16:1 student-to-faculty ratio and class sizes vary, with over half enrolling between 20 and 49 students. A rarity for colleges in 2025, the most commonly conferred degree is in education (24%), followed by business (17%), social sciences (15%), biological and biomedical sciences (14%), and psychology (9%).
In surveying the Class of 2023, SUNY Geneseo found that 33.8% of graduates were working full-time or part-time and 36.7% had applied or were accepted into graduate school or other educational programs. In addition, most of the starting salaries were in the $40k-$60k range and popular employers included KPMG, Epic, The Walt Disney Company, Americorps, and the US Army.
