The Stony Brook School is an independent college preparatory boarding school founded in 1922. Faithful to its original vision as embodied in the motto 鈥淐haracter Before Career,鈥 the School is distinguished by an integration of rigorous academics and Christian faith. SBS welcomes all students, not just those who identify with the school鈥檚 Christian mission. Typically 100% of the senior class goes on to higher education, most matriculating at four-year colleges and universities. The School鈥檚 55-acre campus is located 50 miles east of New York City on Long Island’s north shore.

Academic Program:

At The Stony Brook School, our approach to education is founded on the belief that academic excellence is inseparable from character development.

Our faculty members, who are passionate educators and mentors, guide students through a curriculum that not only challenges them intellectually but also encourages them to explore the deeper questions of life and meaning, preparing students to navigate the complexities of the world with integrity and purpose.

Central to our educational philosophy is integrating faith and learning, which permeates every aspect of the Stony Brook experience. In courses such as “Faith and Culture,” students engage in thoughtful discussions about the intersection of Christian theology with other world religions, grappling with questions of morality, purpose, and spirituality. This interdisciplinary approach encourages students to understand their beliefs and values, preparing them to engage with diverse perspectives and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
