best bs/md programs bs md list

Combined bachelor鈥檚 and medical degree programs cannot be found at just any university and, where available, admissions standards are extremely high, with the medical school acceptance contingent on undergraduate performance. BS/MD programs at these colleges are ultra-competitive and require years of intense work, but they can save participants time, money and the stress of formally applying to medical school. The following table reveals colleges offering combined medical (BA/MD or BS/MD) programs and the medical school with whom each partners. What is a BS/MD program?

A BS/MD is a combined Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degree program that is a continuous educational experience, without any separate application process to medical school. Sometimes BS/MD programs allow students to finish both degrees in seven years; others still require the typical eight years to complete (4+4).

Acceptance rates

As you have seen in the chart above, the best BS/MD programs actually possess lower acceptance rates than are found in the regular undergraduate admissions process at notoriously difficult institutions like Stanford (3.9%), Harvard (3.6%), and Columbia (3.9%).  For example, the University of Rochester’s program with the UR School of Medicine and Dentistry sports a sub-1% acceptance rate. The Ivy League鈥檚 only such program is at Brown via the university鈥檚 Program in Liberal Medical Education. There were 3,516 applicants for a spot in Brown鈥檚 BS/MD Class of 2024. Only 82 were offered admission. This works out to an acceptance rate of 2.3%. The average SAT score for accepted applicants was 1,510.

Even universities that lack the overall prestige of the likes of Brown often have minuscule acceptance rates for their limited BS/MD spots. For example, Virginia Commonwealth University has a 5% admit rate for combined degree-seekers compared to an 91% acceptance rate for regular undergraduates.
