Because of this, we鈥檝e decided to break up this article into two sections. To start, we鈥檒l show you a list of the largest high schools in United States that are fully remote options, or schools that offer online-only instruction. Because of the flexibility in learning, this option is increasingly popular, especially since students from all over the state are usually able to partake in online instruction at the same high school.

Secondly, we will provide a list of the largest high schools in the United States that are brick-and-mortar鈥攐r physical鈥攍ocations.

Before we start, it is important to note that a lot of these online schools are intuitions that serve students in grades from elementary through high school. However, in the write-up provided, we will focus more on the course offerings and opportunities for students in grades 9-12.

Largest High Schools in the United States 鈥� Online

1) 鈥� Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Commonwealth Charter Academy is one of the largest high schools in the United States in part because it鈥檚 an online institution. (A recent graduating class was over 4,400 students.) Overall, the Academy serves students from grades K-12 in all parts of Pennsylvania. Additionally, the school is a charter that is available for no cost to students and their families.

The Academy aims to provide an individualized learning experience for students, with over 2,100 teachers on staff. Throughout the school year, are organized to provide students the ability to meet one another and socialize in a safe and fun setting.

For example, students participate in educational field trips, like visiting museums and historic sites. Plus, students also participate in just-for-fun trips, like petting zoos, bowling, kayaking, and more.

2) 鈥� Maumee, OH

An online high school, the Ohio Virtual Academy is a charter school which offers public school education in an at-home setting. Open to full-time Ohio residents, students here can work at their own pace and enjoy scheduling flexibility. The school is tuition-free and available for students in grades K-12.

All families who enroll at this school enjoy benefits provided by the district. For example, families receive a loaner computer, printer, and even an internet stipend to help make student education more accessible. Students at attend synchronous, live classes in the 鈥淐lass Connect鈥� series.

While most work is online, high school students are expected to commit to 6 hours per day, or 30 hours per week, to their coursework.

3) 鈥� Front Royal, Virginia

An online school for grades pre-K-12, Seton Home Study is Catholic-focused, “Christ-centered” homeschooling. At this institution, students must pay to enroll, but the cost is dependent on the amount of students enrolled at one time and other factors, like grade level. Included with enrollment, students receive textbooks, daily lesson plans, online resources, academic counseling, and more.

At the high school level, students must complete a total of 22 credits. To earn these credits, students take required core classes like English, two years of a foreign language, mathematics, science, social studies, and theology. Additionally, students must select an elective course.

Typically, students take 5.5-6 credits per year. It is recommended that high school students complete elective courses such as personal finance, American Literature, and creative writing before graduation.

4) 鈥� Hallsville, Texas

At the high school level, students have the option to enroll in . Eventually, students in these AP classes can take the exam to earn college credit in courses like Psychology, Calculus, Macroeconomics, and more. Students will attend these courses in online synchronous sessions.

Additionally, the high school has partnered with the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Students in grades 11 and 12 can enroll, tuition-free, in up to two courses per semester to start earning college credit. Overall, students must earn a 鈥淐鈥� or higher in these courses to earn credit.

5) 鈥� Reston, Virginia

With flexible learning options for students in grades K-12, The Keystone School allows to students to learn with self-paced study.

High school students have the option to enroll in advanced placement classes, such as US History, Computer Science Principles, and more. While students must pay a fee to enroll in classes, students are also welcome to transfer into the school from another institution. As well, students can also to help stay on track for graduation. There are more than 40 credit recovery classes available.

6) 鈥� Las Vegas, Nevada

Founded in 2013, the high school is an AI software-driven accredited school for students in grades 9-12. (It’s high-tech-sounding name belies its janky, very awkward website.) Students can either earn a diploma from this school or take courses to supplement their credits from another campus.

At $125/course, students are able to browse a large of course offerings. For example, students can take American Sign Language, astronomy, film history, and environmental science courses in addition to core classes. All classes are video-based and typically require 75 hours of study.

It is important to note that no textbooks or manuals will be issued, but there are online materials to accompany classroom videos.

7) 鈥� Midland, Pennsylvania

A tuition-free program for all students living in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, this school serves students from grades K-12.

High school students are able to take advantage of blended learning classrooms for greater flexibility. This means students can combine asynchronous learning with direct instruction. Additionally, students also have access to peer tutoring services. In fact, students in grades 10-12 who prove to be high-achieving in their classes can tutor younger students.

There are also available at this campus. Some students who participated in these programs went on to study at colleges like Cornell, Drexel, Penn State, and Princeton University, among others.

High school students at this campus can partake in several dual enrollment programs with public, technical, and private institutions. Additionally, students can also participate in to gain practical experience early to meet their career goals.

For students looking to challenge themselves academically, high schoolers can take honors and AP courses, like statistics, US history, biology, and more. Qualifying students can also take AP courses in even more subject areas, like European History, physics, and computer science, among others.
